A new major milestone has been reached by the much anticipated Morley-Ellenbrook Line development in Western Australia, with the route and station locations finalised. This takes the project to the next stage of planning which will get estimated project costing, design, scope and bus/train operations finalised.
“This is a transformational project for our rail network - delivering world-class public transport to residents of Ellenbrook and the north-eastern suburbs.
“It is another job-creating METRONET project and will also help reduce congestion on local roads,” Premier Mark McGowan said.
The preferred route for the 21-kilometre line will run from the Ellenbrook town centre then down to the western side of New Lord Street and through land north of Marshall Road, down the middle of Tonkin Highway to connect at Bayswater Station at the Midland Line.
This development will also deliver five new stations at Ellenbrook, Whiteman Park, Malaga, Noranda and Morley. A new station will also be added in the future at Bennett Springs East to accommodate an increase in population and as development progresses in the region.
The delivery of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line is expected to create thousands of local jobs. Construction is anticipated to commence later this year with the major upgrade on Bayswater Station.
“Currently it takes residents in Ellenbrook around one hour to get to the CBD when using public transport, the Morley-Ellenbrook Line will halve that journey time.
“This line will finally connect the north-eastern suburbs to the broader rail network, linking residents to more employment, education and recreation opportunities, and reducing congestion on our roads,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
In addition to the announcement of the route and station locations, community consultation through online survey and community drop-ins have also commenced and locals are encouraged to provide their feedback.
