APA Orbost Gas Plant Pty Ltd has awarded Downer a $66 million contract to deliver works on the Orbost Gas Plant upgrade project in eastern Victoria.
Under their contract, Downer will undertake the upgrade, repair and modification of the gas plant. Scope of works will include subsea control interfaces, inlet separation, sulphur recovery, dew point control, mercury removal upgrades as well as relocated flare facilities.
Once the upgrade is completed, Orbost Gas Plant – located near Newmerella, approximately 10 kilometres south of Orbost – will be able to process gas that will be delivered through a 64-kilometre subsea pipeline, which will then be exported to the Eastern Gas Pipeline to supply the local market.

The construction phase of this project is expected to open up opportunities for local suppliers and contractors from in and around the Sale and Latrobe Valley regions – including Marlo, Lakes Entrance, Orbost as well as other areas in the State.
“Downer and APA have already developed excellent working relationships and we look forward to working closely with APA in the successful delivery of this important project,” Downer General Manager Eastern Region Kevin Vallino said.
Downer will be mobilising to the site immediately to begin works, and the upgrade is expected to be completed by March 2019.
