A major milestone has been reached in the redevelopment of the Peel Health Campus (PHC) in Western Australia, with the contract for forward works awarded to Devlyn Australia Pty Ltd.

The tender for forward works was released in September of last year and with the contract now awarded, works are expected to commence on site in the coming months.

Forward works are crucial in the redevelopment of the healthcare facility. It will include additional public and staff car parking, engineering service adjustments and upgrades as well as a new Central Energy Plant Shell.

“This major redevelopment will ensure Peel Health Campus can serve the Peel community for decades to come and it’s fantastic to see that works are now underway.

“We know parking at busy hospital sites can be a major headache for patients and staff, which is why we are adding additional bays at PHC.

“These upgrades are part of my Government’s record investment in health, to deliver high-quality care for all Western Australians, regardless of where they live,” Premier Roger Cook said.

On the other hand, detailed planning for the $152 million Peel Health Campus redevelopment is continuing and it is being managed in phases to allow the continued operations of the hospital.

A new Central Sterile Supply Department that sterilises important equipment was opened in December 2024 as part of the redevelopment.

The overall redevelopment of Peel Health Campus will include:

  • Additional public and staff parking
  • A new mental health emergency centre and 20 new mental health beds
  • An additional operating theatre
  • 30 additional inpatient beds
  • 12 additional chemotherapy chairs and 15 new palliative care hospice beds
  • More outpatient services
  • New build of medical imaging services
  • A further reconfiguration of the emergency department
  • Expansion of the day procedure unit
  • Essential hospital facilities to support the uplift in clinical capacity, including new kitchen, pathology and pharmacy services

“Peel Health Campus staff do a fantastic job of caring for our community and soon they will have the facilities to match.

“As part of this project, the Cook Government is delivering more outpatient services, new medical imaging services, a reconfigured emergency department which includes a separate mental health emergency centre, and expanded day procedure unit,” Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday said.

“No other Government has done more for Peel health Campus, and I’m thrilled to see the development taking shape.

“The Cook Government is investing in a new mental health emergency centre and extra chemotherapy places at PHC, and these new car parks will be fantastic for staff and patients,” Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said.

The additional 30 beds delivered as part of this project builds on the 33 extra public beds already delivered as part of the Peel Health Campus’ return to public hands in August 2024.

The redevelopment of the Peel Health Campus ensures that it will continue to provide the best health services the community needs.

“The Peel Health Campus returned to public hands in August 2024, and we are now getting on with the job of revitalising this important hospital.

“As well as this $152 million investment, a new community mental health and eating disorder centre to enhance services in the region is also being developed in partnership with the Commonwealth,” Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.

“The Cook Government’s redevelopment will add 30 more inpatient beds including palliative care hospice beds – as part of a significant upgrade to services.

“It was a proud day when PHC returned to public hands and I’m just as proud to mark this next important milestone for this vital health service,” Mandurah MLA David Templeman said.
