Congestion-busting road works set for Brisbane's north with $80m investment

Motorists travelling across Brisbane’s north will soon experience less congestion and quicker travel times with an $80 million investment to fund congestion busting projects across the region.

“I want people to spend less time stuck in traffic jams and more time at home with their families and working in their businesses - that is what matters,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

The projects to be funded by the multi-million dollar investment will include $50 million worth of upgrades on the Gympie Arterial Road that will help improve the connection to the southern end of the Bruce Highway as well as help the stretch of road to meet an increase in vehicle volume.

Approximately $15 million from the investment will go to the creation of new park and ride facilities in train stations at Mango Hill and Ferny Grove.

Flood-proofing works on Youngs Crossing will also receive $7.75 million in funding, and this will include raising the level of the road.

“This simple solution for Youngs Crossing will raise the level of the existing road and not extend it beyond the existing footprint. It will have no impact on the local environment or residents and retains all our wildlife corridors,” Federal member for Dickson Peter Dutton said.

In addition, three projects are set to be delivered by a $7.5 million investment - which locals from Bracken Ridge will benefit from. The projects will include upgrading the intersection at Barbour Road and Norris Road; upgrade works to Norris Road between Telegraph Road and Bracken Ridge Road; and upgrading of Hoyland Street between Kluver Street and Bracken Ridge Road.

The $80 million funding is part of the $244.5 million investment for South East Queensland through the billion dollar Urban Congestion Fund - announced during the 2018-19 Budget - by the Liberal and Nationals Governments.

“The Urban Congestion Fund is helping to deliver a more reliable road network for commuters and freight, and support critical access to employment centres and freight hubs,” Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge said.
