Works underway on $20m safety upgrade on QLD Mount Lindesay Highway

Major construction works to improve safety on the North Maclean section of the Mount Lindesay Highway north of Brisbane, Queensland is now underway. In February of this year, SEE Civil Pty Ltd was appointed to carry out the works for the $20 million project.

“These upgrades form a vital part of a 10-year plan to improve safety and capacity on the Mount Lindesay Highway.

“...these works mark another milestone in delivering for motorists from North Maclean to the border, and for our vital freight and agriculture industries,” Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

The scope of the project include:

  • Construction of a new service road along the eastern side of the highway to connect Chambers Flat Road Interchange and Greenbank Road

  • Signalising the Greenbank Road intersection to provide highway traffic access to the new service road with the addition of a new slip lane to enter the service road

“Locals know this intersection is a major trouble spot every single day, with near misses and tragically accidents are part of the daily commute.

“The new signalised intersection at Greenbank Road will enable locals to safely access businesses, get to work and get home again by minimising conflicting traffic movements and therefore increasing safety,” Assistant Minister for Roads and Transport and Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz said.

According to State Member for Logan Linus Power, local residents in the North Maclean region will greatly benefit from this project.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Government, and it is due to be completed in early 2020.

“As one of the fastest growing regions in south east Queensland, it’s great to see this project get underway which will improve safety and make sure local families can get home safely,” Mr Power said.

Federal Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge said that the safety upgrades will help improve traffic conditions and enhance safety for over 20,000 motorists passing through this section of the highway.

“Once the Greenbank Intersection of the Mount Lindesay highway Upgrade is complete, the community will be connected with the new service road linking St Aldwyn Road and Wearing Road with a new signalised intersection on the Mount Lindesay Highway at Greenbank Road,” the Minister said.
