Works commence on $30m upgrade on South Coast Highway in WA

Works are now underway on $30 million worth of safety improvement upgrades along the South Coast Highway in Albany, Western Australia. Local WA company Densford Civil has been awarded a $6.4 million contract to deliver the works on Stage 1 of the project.

Stage 1 will include:

  • Widening the existing pavement from seven metres to 11 metres between Bakers Junction to Mead Road in Kalgan. This will include sealing 1 metre of shoulder in each direction

  • Construction of a westbound passing lane between Killarney Road and Montgomery’s Winery, approximately 2.5 kilometres west of Kalgan River Bridge

“These works, which are part of the State Government’s $30 million election commitment to upgrade sections of South Coast Highway, are the first in a series planned for the region over the next three years.

“Once complete, these works will significantly improve traffic flow in the area and increase safety for road users,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

These works will help resolve head-on collisions, road run-offs and congestion on the South Coast Highway.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by May of this year.
