Works on Western Australia’s Great Northern Highway upgrade between Muchea and Chittering is set to go underway by the end of the year, with WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd awarded the contract - valued at approximately $28 million - to deliver the project.
Scope of works for this upgrade will include:
Construction of 3.5 kilometres of dual carriageway that will link up with the NorthLink WA project at Muchea; and 8.5 kilometres of new wider single carriageway through to Chittering Roadhouse. The new highway is going to be built next to the existing Great Northern Highway
Realignment of intersection at Old Gingin Road, Reserve Road, Wandena Road, Maddern South Road and Sugar Gum Drive
The existing highway will be used as local access roads to avoid future congestion and provide safer access points to the highway

“Construction is also underway on sections of the Great Northern Highway further north, on the Miling Bypass and pithara sections, upgrading another 25 kilometres of the strategic freight link,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
The Muchea to Chittering section of the Great Northern Highway Upgrade is expected to be completed by February 2020, weather permitting.
The entire Great Northern Highway - Muchea to Wubin Upgrade is anticipated support up to 2,000 jobs during its construction phase.
