Watpac Limited has been awarded the construction management contract to deliver a part of Adelaide Airport Limited’s $165 million project - the Adelaide Airport Terminal Expansion - which will support the forecast increase in passenger volume to 2029.
“The Group is pleased to be working with Adelaide Airport Limited to deliver this important expansion to ensure the airport’s ongoing role as one of South Australia’s most significant economic precincts,” Watpac Limited Managing Director Martin Monro said.
The project will involve a major expansion as well as refurbishment of the existing airport terminal. Works will include expanding the international inbound passenger processing and baggage claim facility, international arrivals duty free and passenger and immigration facilities, retail spaces and international gate lounge and duty free areas.
Watpac’s scope of works will also include the delivery of a new retail concourse with passenger facilities and amenities as well as providing a domestic lounge for Virgin Australia and other international airline lounges.
Other associated works for the project include the demolition of Aviation House, services relocation, landslide works and airside fencing, civil works, landscaping and construction of entry roadways.
Construction activities on site are expected to commence in July 2018 and the airport terminal expansion is due to be completed in 2021.
Approximately 200 people are expected to be working on the expansion project during peak construction.
According to Watpac Construction South Australia State manager Tim Tape, the team is looking forward to working with Adelaide Airport Limited again.
“Watpac has built a strong relationship with Adelaide Airport Limited having delivered the $76 million Adelaide Airport Landslide Infrastructure project in 2013, and undertaking the subsequent infrastructure services corridor works and demolition of the original International Terminal Building,” Mr Tape said.
