Two of Western Australia’s METRONET projects receive a total of $200 million in funding from the Federal Labor, helping the projects move forward towards construction.
The funding will inject an additional $150 million towards the delivery of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line - which is set to be connected to the Bayswater Station and integrated into the Tonkin Highway.
The Morley-Ellenbrook Line and the Bayswater Station upgrade are planned to be delivered together to help reduce disruption to the local community during construction as well as provide value for money.
The remaining $50 million from the Federal Labor investment will go towards the construction of the Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing Facility. This new facility is part of the State Government’s $1.6 billion project - which will prioritise utilising local content for its development - that will deliver 246 new METRONET railcars and it is going to be Perth’s new railcar assembly and maintenance centre.
“Delivering the new Railcar Manufacturing Facility in Bellevue will help ensure we secure local jobs both in the assembly and maintenance of future METRONET railcars,” Premier Mark McGowan said.

Site investigations have commenced on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line, with works including surveys and geotechnical investigation to help the project team understand the condition of the project area.
From an announcement made by METRONET: “Once complete, the project team will have a better understanding of the physical features of the land within the project area, as well as the properties of the ground and soil. The studies will also confirm the exact location of any underground utility infrastructure such as water pipes, gas pipes and electricity cables.”
