WA's $24.9m Osborne Park Hospital expansion one step closer to construction
Contractors are now being invited to submit their interest to tender for the $24.9 million Osborne Park Hospital expansion in Western Australia, progressing the project towards the next stage of the development. The first artist impression for the project has also been released to the public.
“It’s expansion projects like these that help improve our health services in the suburbs where people live, and create jobs through construction,” Premier Mark McGowan said.
The project will include a new level 2A neonatal nursery as well as a fit-for-purpose maternity assessment unit and 16-bed rehabilitation unit.
The new neonatal nursery and maternity assessment unit will enable mothers from the local community with low to moderate risk pregnancies to give birth closer to their residence.
In addition, the nursery will be providing a higher level of care to help reduce the need for babies that need specialist care to transfer to a different hospital. This enables the babies and their mothers to remain in the same hospital after labour.

The new 16-bed rehabilitation unit, on the other hand, will specialise in caring for patients over 65 years old that require rehabilitation. The unit will include six existing stroke beds together with 10 new beds.
“I’m pleased the plans are underway with the release of the expressions of interest process and the new artist impressions for these improved features at Osborne Park Hospital.
“More than 1,450 babies are born each year and while not all of them require a higher level of care, in the future if they do, these babies can stay with their mums here at Osborne Park Hospital,” Health Minister Roger Cook said.
With this expansion, the Osborne Park Hospital will be the first in Perth’s northern suburbs to have a centralised therapy hub to service thousands of inpatients and outpatients that need rehabilitation in a contemporary environment.
Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2021.
