Over the next 12 months, two vital arterial roads in Western Australia will go under major safety improvements and upgrade works with more than $24 million invested by the State Government to deliver these projects.
This multi-million investment will deliver planned upgrades to Brand Highway and Indian Ocean Drive, with works to include:
“Over the next 12 months $24 million worth of safety upgrades will be undertaken on Indian Ocean Drive and Brand Highway.
“Both of these roads are important routes for our agricultural and mineral resource industries that also provide a scenic route for tourists travelling between our coastal towns,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
These works are funded through the Road Trauma Trust Account, Safer Roads, Royalties for Regions, State Blackspot and Main Roads maintenance funds.
The Indian Ocean Drive upgrades are expected to be completed by April 2020.
The Western Australian Government has invested over $2 billion through the 2019-20 State Budget towards projects that will improve and build Western Australia’s regional roads.

A $24 million contract has been awarded that will get works underway to upgrade an 11-kilometre section of Great Eastern Highway between Southern Cross and Ghooli, southwest of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
Work will soon get underway to upgrade more sections of the Great Eastern Highway in Western Australia.
Works on Western Australia’s Great Northern Highway upgrade between Muchea and Chittering is set to go underway by the end of the year, with WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd awarded the contract - valued at approximately $28 million - to deliver the project.
