Western Australia-based company Cape has been awarded the contract to deliver an 18 kilometre borefield pipeline for Pilbara MineralsPilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum project located near Port Hedland.

Cape’s scope of works will include providing pipelines, earthworks, a telemetry control system, submersible bore pump packages and a transfer pumping station package. The company’s contract also includes the post-construction operation and maintenance of a dewatering infrastructure for an initial 6-month period.

“We are delighted to secure a pipeline project within the lithium sector… Our specialist MFT20 Fast Fusion Welding Machines were critical in ensuring a cost effective and efficient solution for Pilbara Minerals,” Cape CEO Peter Rowles said.

Pilbara Minerals has recently completed a pre-feasibility study on the Pilgangoora project which determined that an expansion on the mine could possibly get underway as early as this year. The $207 million Stage 2 expansion is expected to bring up the mine’s capacity from 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 5mtpa of ore.
