Construction is underway on a $12 million safety upgrade to the Midland Highway between Ballarat and Creswick in Victoria, which is expected to create more than 50 local jobs.

This project will include upgrading 11 kilometres of the Midland Highway with flexible safety barriers and three new roundabouts at Millers, Cummins and Kennedys Roads. In addition, new overtaking lanes as well as wider road shoulders will also be constructed.

“This $12 million upgrade will transform this 11 kilometre section of the Midland Highway into one of the safest roads in Victoria,” Member for Wendouree Sharon Knight said.

Once completed, the improvements made to the Midland Highway will help save lives as well as reduce the risk and severity of collisions at intersections. This upgrade will also prevent vehicles from crashing head-on and into roadside hazards such as trees.

This upgrade is being delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s Towards Zero Road Safety Strategy – in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission and VicRoads.

“The majority of lives lost on regional Victorian roads are the result of a head-on crash or a vehicle running off the road. Improvements such as these will drastically reduce the number of people being killed and seriously injured on our roads,” CEO Transport Accident Commission Joe Calafiore said.
