Western Australia-based business GBF Underground Mining Company has been awarded an underground mining contract for Millennium Minerals’ Nullagine gold project - located approximately 185 kilometres north of Newman.
GBF’s three-year contract will mainly focus on works for the Bartons underground mine development – Nullagine’s first underground mine. Scope of works under the contract will include establishing an underground portal, decline and level development, ore driving and stope production. GBF will also deliver two 100-metre exploration drill drives as part of their contract.
The company is expected to begin mobilising on site later this month and commence underground mining activities in March.
With this project, high-grade, free-milling mineralisation from the existing Bartons open pit will be accessed.
According to Millennium Minerals Chief Executive Peter Cash, their company is pleased to have awarded the first underground mining contract for the Nullagine project.
“We are rapidly progressing towards development of our first underground mine at Nullagine, and we’re looking forward to working closely with GBF as they mobilise to site in the coming weeks and prepare to commence portal development at Bartons later this quarter.
“Exploiting the potential of the deeper primary mineralisation identifies beneath the many oxide deposits across the Nullagine goldfield is a key component of our strategy to increase production and mine life – and this marks an important first step in that process,” Mr Cash said.
