Three contracts awarded for new nbn builds in Sydney and Melbourne

NBN Co Limited (nbn™) has signed Design and Construction Master Agreements (DCMA) with three delivery partners to design and build approximately 525, 000 premises with Fibre to the Curb (FttC) technology. in Sydney and Melbourne. 

The new FTTC DCMA agreements are with Downer EDI Limited; Fulton Hogan Construction; and Service Stream.

In a company statement, nbn said "the partners were selected based on performance metrics, ability to mobilise and support scale, and their design and construction capability." 

"The FTTC DCMAs aim to incentivise delivery partners to meet time and cost targets. This is designed to encourage ongoing performance improvements, through innovation and program management."

nbn Chief Network Engineering Officer Peter Ryan said:

“The new agreements will support our world-leading FTTC technology. Importantly, we have the flexibility to deploy other technologies easily over time. The design and construction framework is intended to enable a faster rollout, by providing end-to-end accountability for the footprint”, said Mr Ryan. 

Downer EDI Limited

Downer has revealed their contract is valued at approximately $200 million over 30 months (to June 2019) and will will see them deliver services to approximately 230,000 premises in the Sydney metropolitan region. 

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said “We are delighted to win this new contract which is another step toward helping nbnTM achieve its goal of delivering fast and reliable broadband to eight million homes by 2020,” said Mr Fenn. 

Downer has existing contracts with nbn™ including "the Multi-technology Integrated Master Agreement (MIMA) under which Downer is delivering Fibre to the Node, Fibre to the Premises and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial services in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia."

Service Stream

Service Stream's Fixed Communications division will be responsible for the design and construction of broadband infrastructure to approximately 130,000 premises in the eastern regions of Melbourne. 

Service Stream also announced works under the contract are valued at approximately $120 million over the 2.5 year term. 

Managing Director, Leigh Mackender said "Being awarded this DCMA for the new Fibre-to-the-Curb is another vote of confidence by nbn in Service Stream's capabilities and recognition of Fixed Communications' positive performance under the Multi-technology Integrated Master Agreement (MIMA) with nbn which has seen the business successfully construct Fibre-to-the-Node services for approximately 40,000 premises across Eastern Victoria so far in the past year."
