Three shortlisted proponents have been announced for the delivery of the HumeLink transmission project – a critical link in the National Electricity Market.
The three proponents – all reputable Tier 1 Delivery Partners – are now invited to submit tenders and bid for the project’s construction contract.
“Transgrid is taking a major step forward on this critically important transmission project that will help reshape the National Electricity Market. HumeLink, together with Transgrid’s other major transmission projects EnergyConnect and VNI West, are the energy superhighway of the future.
“These massive transmission projects will help deliver cheaper, cleaner and more secure electricity for millions of Australians across the eastern seaboard. They will enable greater integration of more affordable renewable energy generation and support increased sharing between the states – helping the nation to achieve its clean energy targets,” Transgrid CEO Brett Redman said.
The proponents that will move to the next phase of the selection process include:
Transgrid will continue working with local communities and landowners as well as engage with all stakeholders for the successful delivery of HumeLink. Landowners are also encouraged to get in touch with their Community Engagement Place Manager for more information on the next Community Consultative Group meetings.
“We will continue to engage with landowners and stakeholders on HumeLink throughout the project,” Mr Redman said.
The HumeLink project will deliver a new 500kV transmission line that will span approximately 360 kilometres, connecting Wagga Wagga, Bannaby and Maragle. The project will also upgrade two substations at Maragle and Bannaby and build a new substation near Wagga Wagga.
Once completed, HumeLink will help unlock the full capacity of the Snowy 2.0 development as well as link to the new transmission line project EnergyConnect in Wagga Wagga – which is already under construction.
The HumeLink project represents a once-in-a-generation investment in Australia’s energy future, and it is anticipated to deliver $491 million in net benefits to the nation.
In addition, the project is estimated to create more than 1,000 jobs during its construction – expected to commence in 2024.

The joint transmission line project between South Australia's ElectraNet and New South Wales’ TransGrid has marked new major milestones, taking it a step closer to begin delivering cheaper, cleaner and more reliable electricity across the two states.
In line with the State’s current energy infrastructure boom, two major projects have been granted planning approval and Critical State Significant Infrastructure status has been given to the Waratah Super Battery project.
The Queensland Government is committing $1.3 billion to fast track the development of CopperString 2032 – Australia’s largest transmission project – and get major construction going by mid-2024.
