Thiess - a CIMIC Group member - has been awarded a $225 million contract to continue providing mining services for BHP Nickel West at the Rocky’s Reward mine - located at Leinster, approximately 400 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
The 34-month contract involves further cutback at the mine pit as well as works on a satellite pit. Mining services will include mine planning and engineering; overburden and ore mining; drilling and blasting; and rehandling services to the processing facility at Leinster.
“We look forward to building on our experience at Rocky’s Reward where we delivered strongly in production and safety. We also look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for local jobs and suppliers,” Thiess Managing Director Douglas Thompson said.
Nickel West is part of the BHP Billiton Group, and it is a fully integrated nickel business made up of the Mt Keith, Cliffs and Leinster mines as well as the Kalgoorlie smelter, the Kambalda concentrator and the Kwinana refinery.
