CIMIC Group member Thiess has been awarded a $185 million contract to provide additional mining services for BHP at the Mount Arthur coal operation located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
Thiess has been providing load and haul services at the mine since December 2016, and this new 15-month contract extends Thiess’ scope of works – including mining of overburden and coal at Mouth Arthur’s southern end.
“We’re pleased to continue our work at Mt Arthur Coal. This contract demonstrates our ability to work with our clients and deliver the equipment and expertise they need,” CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said.
Thiess Managing Director Douglas Thompson added: “We look forward to continuing to support BHP, while creating opportunities for local jobs and local suppliers.”
Earlier this month, Thiess was also awarded a $190 million contract extension from Anglo American to continue providing mining services at Dawson South in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
