Significant road safety upgrades to priority sections of Brindabella Road are a step closer to reality with the tender to undertake survey and design works awarded.

Snowy Valleys Council has awarded the contract for the important preparatory works to Rigore Engineering Services.

Residents, the local council, and the Brindabella Road the Economic Link Group have long been calling for upgrades to Brindabella Road, which is why the Australian Government is investing $37.4 million towards the upgrade.

“Upgrading Brindabella Road is something that both ACT and Eden-Monaro residents have long called for, which is why I was proud to secure an additional $20 million for this project, building on my initial commitment of $17.4 million.

“With the road survey and design tender now awarded, we’re a step closer to getting these critical improvements underway – making this route that cuts 66 kilometres off the alternate journey via the Hume Highway, safer and more reliable.

“These upgrades will unlock the Snowy Valleys to more people from the ACT and across NSW, ensuring they can enjoy some of the region’s best experiences – from our amazing camping and boating spots, the Sculpture Trail, award-winning restaurants, and our new bike tracks,” Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain said.

The significant investment will support the delivery of works to a 10.6-kilometre section of Brindabella Road between the intersection of Goodradigbee River Bridge and Piccadilly Circus on the New South Wales / ACT border.

Survey and design works will commence in early 2025, with both expected to be finalised in September of next year. Construction on the Brindabella Road upgrade is due to begin in late 2025.

“I congratulate Rigor Engineering on being the successful tenderer and look forward to the progression of the project.

“Major upgrades and sealing of Brindabella Road have long been an advocacy priority of Council and we have been supported in this vision with over $37 million in federal government funding thanks to support by the Hom Kristy McBain MP.

“The funding is a game-changer for the Snowy Valleys region, enhancing liveability for our residents while attracting new families and businesses to call our community home.

“The full upgrade project will enhance liveability, boost business productivity, and elevate tourism, driving investment and creating new opportunities that will benefit the entire Snowy Valleys community,” Snowy Valleys Council Mayor Julia Ham said.
