Following a feasibility study conducted in February of this year, CIMIC Group company Sedgman has now been awarded a contract for works at the Jellinbah Mine in Central Queensland.
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract is for the delivery of upgrades to the coal handling and processing plant at the mine site.
Upon completion of the feasibility study earlier this year, Sedgman continued working into the front-end engineering design phase with an EPC offer to Jellinbah Group in June.
In a statement, Sedgman said: “Throughout the development of the project Sedgman maintained a close working relationship with the Jellinbah team, adding value to the project through technical leadership and authentic collaboration.”

Sedgman will now begin detailed engineering and procurement, with the project team anticipated to begin mobilising to the project site in March 2021 to complete the installation and commissioning by the end of 2021.
The expansion of the coal handling and processing plant will increase production capacity from 285t/h to 500t/h.
Sedgman’s long history with Jellinbah Group includes the CIMIC Group company’s successful delivery of several major projects at the Lake Vermont Mine – which is also owned by Jellinbah Group.
The Jellinbah Mine is located near Bluff, on the Tropic of Capricorn, and has been in operation since 1989. The open cut mine produces two main coal products, namely PCI Coal and Semi Soft Coking Coal.
