Sedgman and Ausenco secure contracts on Century zinc mine restart project in QLD

New Century Resources has awarded a $40 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to CIMIC Group member, Sedgman as well as a $1.7 million contract to Ausenco to deliver works for the Century zinc mine restart in Queensland.

Scope of works under Sedgman’s contract will include the reconfiguration, refurbishment and operational readiness of the Century Processing Plant at Lawn Hill and Karumba Port Facility. The company will also undertake civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical works which will be determined by the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study.

In November last year, Sedgman and New Century Resources completed a feasibility study restart of the Century zinc mine as well as concentrate pipeline and Karumba port. In December of the same year, early works on the project began.

“This contract is a valued addition to our mineral processing portfolio. We are pleased to continue working with New Century Resources to deliver Sedgman’s full project cycle service offering, adding value from feasibility study through to operation,” Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said.

In addition, New Century Resources awarded Ausenco the contract for the refurbishment and commissioning of the Concentrate Slurry Pipeline – which is expected to take up to three months to complete.

The Century zinc mine - located 250 kilometres north west of Mount Isa - is currently on-track to re-start production by the third quarter of 2018.

The total estimated cost of the restart project is $50 million, according to the Restart Feasibility Study conducted on the project.
