Registrations of interest sought for Western Sydney Airport visitor centre

WSA Co is inviting registrations of interest to finalise the design as well as build the Western Sydney Airport visitor centre where the public can have a ‘first-class ticket’ to see the new airport being built.

“This airport will belong to Western Sydney and we want the community to be able to see what’s happening on site as the terminal and runway take shape.

“This will also be an important facility as the Australian and New South Wales Governments, together with Western Sydney Councils, work together to attract international and Australian businesses to locate in Western Sydney to take advantage of the connectivity the airport will offer,” Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities Paul Fletcher said.

The Western Sydney Airport visitor centre will include a construction viewing area and an interactive exhibition. The visitor centre will also comprise of an immersive experience that will tell the story of the new airport as well as its benefits to the region, particularly in terms of jobs creation.

“It’s exciting to think some of the students who come to the visitor centre on school excursions may one day be working at the airport,” Assistant Minister for Finance David Coleman said.

According to Marise Payne, Senator for Western Sydney, the new Western Sydney Airport is expected to support more than 11,000 direct and indirect jobs and a further 27,000 operational positions once the airport opens.

“Western Sydney Airport will be a catalyst for growth in our community and already at this early stage we are seeing local jobs being generated with the announcement last month that three contracts have been awarded, creating up to 300 jobs.

“WSA Co has local employment targets of 30 per cent during construction and 50 per cent during operation, to ensure the airport provides jobs for Western Sydney residents,” Minister Payne said.

The Western Sydney Airport visitor centre is going to be built in an elevated area near one of the runways and it will have direct views to where the new terminal is going to be constructed.

“We’ve chosen the prime position on what is a very large construction site to give visitors the best views possible,” WSA Co Chief Executive Graham Millett said.

Construction on the airport visitor centre is expected to commence this year and is due to open its door to the public by mid-2019.

The new Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek is set to open for operations in 2026.
