Following the release of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) last month, the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 development has reached another milestone with Registrations of Interest for the first phase of works now underway.

Industry partners are being encouraged to register their interest in taking part in the delivery of this Western Sydney project.

“We have reached the next phase of the procurement process to deliver the first significant bridge crossing over the Parramatta River since 1987.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our industry partners to find out more about the project, and work with us to deliver innovative and reliable transport connections.

“We have seen the incredible transformation Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 is delivering for the people of Western Sydney, and we want interested parties to come forward and be part of the exciting next phase,” Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said.

The first phase of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 will include building a 320-metre-long bridge as well as approaches on either side of the river – which will total 1.3 kilometres. This bridge will provide a much-needed connection for the region’s growing communities while unlocking access to the Sydney Olympic Park peninsula and its world class facilities for sporting, recreational and economic use.

Registrations are open until 18 January 2023 and interested parties can register their interests and get more information through the NSW Government eTendering website.

Expressions of Interest for shortlisted industry partners will open in January 2023 and Enabling Works are anticipated to commence in 2024.

The New South Wales Government has committed $602.4 million to get detailed planning underway on the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 project. This significant funding investment will also get early works going, including the construction of the vital bridge across the Parramatta River between Wentworth Point and Melrose Park.

Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 will feature:

  • 14 fully accessible stops over a 10-kilometre two-way track
  • Connections to Sydney Metro West and heavy rail in Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park; and ferry services at Rydalmere and Sydney Olympic Park
  • An 8.5-kilometre walking and bike-riding path parallel to the light rail corridor, linking to the existing network
  • A shared light rail and pedestrian zone along Dawn Fraser Avenue in Sydney Olympic Park between Australia Avenue and Olympic Boulevard
  • New light rail and active transport bridges, including connections over the Parramatta River from Camellia to Rydalmere and Melrose Park to Wentworth Point
  • Services approximately every 7.5 minutes between 7am and 7pm on weekdays
  • Travel times of around 31 minutes from Camellia to the Carter Street Precinct via Sydney Olympic Park, and a further 7 minutes to the Parramatta CBD

Stage 2 is going to connect Stage 1 and the Parramatta CBD to Sydney Olympic Park via Camellia, Rydalmere, Ermington, Melrose Park and Wentworth Point – connecting communities in the Greater Parramatta and Olympic Peninsula as well as bringing the vision of a ‘30-minute city’ a step closer to reality.
