RCR Tomlinson is set to commence the development of Stage 2 of the Pilgangoora lithium-tantalum processing plant in Western Australia.

Pilbara Minerals previously awarded RCR a $148 million two-stage contract for the development of 2Mtpa processing plant, with Stage 1 – involving a front-end engineering and design (FEED) program – already completed.

Stage 2 of the development will commence immediately after a final investment decision (FIC) was made by Pilbara Minerals. The second stage will include the construction of the Pilgangoora process plant.

“We are pleased to be supporting Pilbara Minerals for this significant Lithium development. Work will commence immediately on the project and it will contribute to our FY18 earnings,” RCR Managing Director and CEO, Dr Paul Dalgleish said.

NRW Holdings - which was awarded the bulk earthworks contract - is preparing the site for RCR to commence construction.

Pilbara Minerals is expecting to commission the Pilgangoora project from March 2018, with first shipments set for the following quarter.
