As part of the Queensland Government’s record investment in the delivery of new and expanded hospitals across the State, the Redcliffe Hospital will receive a $1.06 billion funding for a major expansion project.

The expansion will increase Redcliffe Hospital’s bed base by approximately 204 beds.

“The expansion will also include a new clinical services building, new ambulatory care building, and refurbishment of the existing hospital to deliver additional capacity across both clinical and facility support services.

“This major expansion will significantly increase the care offered across the range of inpatient and outpatient services at Redcliffe Hospital.

“It will include additional operating theatres, Emergency Department treatment spaces, endoscopy rooms, birthing suites, outpatient consult rooms, diagnostic rooms, and expansion of medical imaging, pharmacy and pathology areas,” Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said.

The new ambulatory care building is anticipated to be operational in the second half of 2026 while the new clinical services building is due to open in the second half of 2027. On the other hand, the refurbishment of the existing hospital will be completed in the second half of 2028.

“This billion-dollar expansion of the hospital will expand health service capacity and ensure locals can continue accessing world-class health services into the future,” Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting said.

The expansion will not only increase the capacity of the Redcliffe Hospital, but it will also generate thousands of jobs during its construction phase.

“Building health infrastructure provides local job opportunities, and this project will create around 2,573 jobs during the construction,” Member for Murrumba Steven Miles said.

According to Metro North Health Chief Executive Adjunct Professor Jackie Hanson, this expansion will enable Redcliffe Hospital to deliver enhanced health services to the growing community in the region.

“The Redcliffe community has benefited in recent years from upgrades at the hospital including upgraded operating theatres and medical imaging services.

“This major expansion will significantly expand bed capacity and allow us to grow the world-class health services we provide,” Adjunct Professor Hansons said.

The more than one-billion-dollar investment is part of the additional $9.78 billion funding from the 2022-23 State Budget to be spent over six years to deliver new and expanded hospitals as well as new beds across Queensland.

This significant investment in health care facilities builds on the 1,350 additional beds opened across the State since 2015.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s additional funding of $9.78 billion for new hospitals and new beds is the largest in Queensland’s history.

“The new hospitals and hospital expansion projects announces in the Budget will deliver 2,509 extra beds over six years – including 199 more beds in 2023 and 239 more beds in 2024 – in additional to 869 beds already being delivered through current expansion projects,” Minister D’Ath said.
