The Queensland Government has called for tenders for the $34.2 million Bill Fulton Bridge duplication project, fixing an important thoroughfare on one of Cairns' most used roads. More than 30,000 motorists use the Cairns Western Arterial Road every day, with Redlynch's infamous Bill Fulton Bridge named the number one issue raised by constituents in the Barron River area.
The duplication project will be one of the first to be delivered the State Government’s $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program (SRIPP), part of the $2 billion State Infrastructure Fund.
“This project which is creating 97 jobs locally is a high priority for the Palaszczuk Government,” Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said.
“Works are expected to include 120 metres of new bridging, 700m of duplication between Brinsmead and Redlynch roads and signalisation of the Brinsmead Road intersection.”
Mr Crawford said construction was on track to start in late 2016 (weather permitting).
“The tender is expected to be awarded in October and construction well underway before the next wet season,” he said.
You can access the tender for construction of Bill Fulton Bridge Duplication and Approach Works here, with the invitation to offer closing on Friday 9 September.

More than ten years of construction, 16 projects already completed or in progress, and $8.5 billion in federal and state funding for material and works - the Bruce Highway upgrade programme is a massive project. It requires a workforce of thousands and hundreds of companies to build all the different projects. In a release titled "Coalition delivering on plan to 'Fix the Bruce Highway", Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester has identified the next eight projects the Coalition Government is working to deliver.
BMD Constructions has this week been awarded the contract to duplicate the Princes Highway between Armytage and Warncoort, providing approximately 15 kilometres of dual divided highway with a wide median and 3.5 metre shoulder. The works form part of the second section of the $363 million Princes Highway duplication from Winchelsea to Colac.
The Victorian State Government has announced an Alliance of Laing O'Rourke, Fulton Hogan and Jacobs has been chosen as the preferred bidder for a $500 million package of works in Melbourne, including the duplication of the Hurstbridge line, construction of a new Rosanna station, and removing level crossings at Lower Plenty and Grange Roads.
