QCoal Pty Ltd has chosen Macmahon Holdings Limited as the preferred mining contractor for the Byerwen Coal Mine near Glenden in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Macmahon has been notified by QCoal of its intention to enter into exclusive negotiations to finalise the contract for works on the coal mine.

The proposed contract will include a full range of open cut mining as well as bulk earthworks related services for up to three years. Macmahon has begun mobilising on-site and has also commenced other preparatory activities on the mine.

According to Macmahon Chief Executive Officer Michael Finnegan, the company was “very encouraged” to be selected as the preferred mining contractor for QCoal’s Byerwen Coal Mine.

“This is a quality project which will deliver significant benefits to the local and State economy.

“While there is still a lot of detail to be negotiated, we are buoyed by our selection as preferred contractor, which highlights our ability to complete for desirable new projects,” Mr Finnegan said.
