Preferred proponent announced for METRONET High-Capacity Signalling Project
Following the announcement of two shortlisted proponents last year, the Public Transport Authority has now selected the AD Alliance as the preferred proponent to design, supply, build and maintain the METRONET High Capacity Signalling (HCS) Project.
AD Alliance is comprised of Alstom Transport Australia Pty Ltd and DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd.
The announcement of the preferred proponent to deliver the project will now pave the way for the beginning of contract negotiations.
The HCS Project will replace and significantly upgrade the signalling and train control systems on the passenger rail network in Perth, which will ultimately allow more trains to run more often.
In the coming years, Perth’s passenger rail network is expected to see an increase in the number of trains running on the tracks as several METRONET projects are completed.
Once completed and commissioned, the new signalling and control systems will continuously send real-time train data to Transperth to allow them to monitor the speed as well as location of every train on Perth’s growing rail network.
“Announcing the preferred proponent for the High-Capacity Signalling Project is a critical milestone in the continued expansion of Perth’s passenger rail network.
“This brings us one step closer to upgrading our rail network’s signalling and train control systems, which will improve our trains’ reliability and safety.
“Significantly upgrading our signalling and train control systems will allow more trains to run more often, benefiting not only our current passengers but also meeting future demands,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments and its delivery is going to be carried out in stages over the next decade to minimise disruption to train operations.
The HCS Project is being delivered alongside the Public Transport Authority’s Radio Systems Replacement project that will upgrade Transperth’s rail radio system through replacement of the existing analogue technology with a high-tech digital communication platform.
