Planning approval has been granted by the State Government to the Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria, taking the $1.5 billion renewable energy project one step closer to construction. This wind farm is lodged to become one of Australia’s largest wind farms.
The Golden Plains Wind Farm is expected to create hundreds of local jobs as well as generate up to 3,000GW/h of electricity annually, which is enough to power over 400,000 homes.
“This project will create hundreds of local jobs, reduce greenhouse emissions and generate enough electricity to power more than 400,000 homes - boosting supply and putting downward pressure on power prices,” Acting Minister for Planning Lily D’Ambrosio said.
The new large-scale wind farm developed by WestWind Energy is going to be built on a 17,000-hectare site located approximately 60 kilometres north west of Geelong. The project will comprise of up to 181 wind turbines with heights of about 230 metres high, and with a total capacity of about 800MW.
