Planning approval has been granted by the State Government to the Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria, taking the $1.5 billion renewable energy project one step closer to construction. This wind farm is lodged to become one of Australia’s largest wind farms.
The Golden Plains Wind Farm is expected to create hundreds of local jobs as well as generate up to 3,000GW/h of electricity annually, which is enough to power over 400,000 homes.
“This project will create hundreds of local jobs, reduce greenhouse emissions and generate enough electricity to power more than 400,000 homes - boosting supply and putting downward pressure on power prices,” Acting Minister for Planning Lily D’Ambrosio said.
The new large-scale wind farm developed by WestWind Energy is going to be built on a 17,000-hectare site located approximately 60 kilometres north west of Geelong. The project will comprise of up to 181 wind turbines with heights of about 230 metres high, and with a total capacity of about 800MW.

“This is a fantastic project which will bring hundreds of jobs to our area, strengthening the renewable energy industry and taking clean power to thousands of homes,” Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle said.
The next step for the project will include seeking approval from the Federal Government before construction can begin.
Once all necessary approvals have been granted to the project, construction is anticipated to take up to four years to complete.

The Queensland Government has given development approval to an 800MW wind farm at Clarke Creek, approximately 150 kilometres north west of Rockhampton and 150 kilometres south of Mackay. The massive wind farm is set to become Australia’s largest.
The $370 million Moorabool North Wind Farm is one step closer to beginning construction, Goldwind Australia has announced. Moorabool North Wind Farm is part of the larger 321MW Moorabool Wind Farm development in Victoria.
Works are now underway on Acciona Energy Australia’s wholly-owned $288 million Mortlake South Wind Farm in Victoria. This is the company’s fifth wind farm development in Australia, and it will have a capacity of approximately 157.5MW.
