Thousands of jobs as well as opportunities are set to be created for small, local businesses as registrations open for the delivery the $15.8 billion North East Link.
Over 10,000 jobs and millions of dollars’ worth of contracts will be up for grabs as part of Victoria’s largest road which will reduce travel times by about 35 minutes and deliver the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network.
“North East Link is a huge project that will change how we move around our city forever - and we need all hands on deck to build it.
“As we get on with a massive pipeline of major projects, we look to put local jobs first - so put your hand up now to help build North East Link,” Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan said.
The State Government is encouraging tradies as well as small to medium-sized businesses to register their interest for work opportunities on the North East Link as it is built over the next eight years.
Early works will commence soon and opportunities for small and medium businesses will be available. A consortium is anticipated to be chosen by the end of the year for the design and construction of North East Link and the contractor will have to exhibit how they will create opportunities for training and local jobs.
“We are creating more jobs for Victorians and supporting local industry by inviting small and medium businesses to be part of building our biggest road project.
“We know that one of the biggest challenges for local businesses is breaking into new or expanding supply chains and that’s why we’re making sure there are opportunities for everyone to be part of North East Link,” Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade Martin Pakula said.
Some of the available jobs will include:
In addition, employees and businesses in the Bulleen Industrial Precinct that are impacted by the project will be given additional reskilling and training opportunities. Businesses will also have access to individual support plans as well as a relocation specialist and marketing assistance as part of North East Link’s business support package.
For employees of businesses that are closing or relocating, an employment assistance strategy will be established to provide skill assessments, job support and training and development.
For those who are interested in registering their interest, you can do so here.
The North East Link Project will ultimately connect the M80 with the upgraded Eastern Freeway as well as take approximately 15,000 trucks off local roads daily and deliver up to 25 kilometres of new cycling and walking path.
