Olympic Dam extension contract secured by Mitchell Services

Mitchell Services’ underground drilling contract at BHP’s Olympic Dam mine in South Australia has been extended.

Mitchell announced that its contract at the mine has been extended by at least 12 months to April 2019. Similarly, the scope of work will be increased for the multi-commodity mine following a strong drilling performance and successful mobilisation.

As part of BHP’s plans to expand the high-grade southern area of the mine, the contract variation will see Mitchell provide up to seven underground rigs which all become part of BHP's growth strategy at the operation.

Andrew Elf, Mitchell chief executive officer said he was proud the company was offered the extension and scope increase.

“It demonstrates our ability to execute on a safe, efficient mobilisation process and our ability to match the high standards of Tier 1 mining clients such as BHP through safe and productive drilling,” Elf said.

Under the original contract, two one-year extension options was included and Mitchell was engaged to provide diamond drilling services and obtain new underground rigs for this site.

Initially the contract was secured by Mitchell for one year in April this year to provide mining services at Olympic Dam.
