The $65 million Sumners Road upgrade in Queensland takes another step closer to beginning construction, with the design contract awarded to Arup Consultancy. Design and tendering are now underway, and early works on the project are expected to commence in late 2018.
According to Member for Mount Ommaney Jess Pugh, this interchange upgrade will improve road safety as well as reduce traffic on two of the busiest road connections in Brisbane’s south west region.
“This is great news for people who travel through western Brisbane because it will ultimately mean less time spent in the car, and more time spent doing what they enjoy,” Ms Pugh said.
Works to improve the Sumners Road interchange will include:
“These works will also reduce nus connection times to Darra train station for commuters as well as improving cycle paths for the thousands of people who use the Centenary Bikeway,” Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

Queensland’s $1 billion M1 Varsity Lakes to Tugun Upgrade is another step closer to beginning construction as the first project design is released for public viewing.
An expression of interest process has begun for the design and construction of the Pacific Motorway M1/M3/Gateway Merge at Eight Mile Plains. The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads will also begin engaging with a design consultant for the Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes development, which will help identify firm market-based construction costs.
The Infrastructure Group joint venture – between Bielby, BMD Constructions, JF Hull and Albem Pty Ltd with ARUP Group and HDR Inc – has been awarded the design and construction contract for the $514.3 million Haughton River Floodplain Upgrade, which is part of the Bruce Highway package of works.
