New Kilcoy Creek Bridge in QLD set for construction in 2019

A new bridge over the Kilcoy Creek along the D’Aguilar Highway in Queensland is set to be constructed later this year to replace the existing 85-year-old timber bridge, improving road conditions for all motorists passing through the route.

The Australian Government - under its Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program - and the Queensland Government have jointly invested approximately $5.88 million towards the delivery of the 15-metre-long two-lane concrete bridge.

“The new bridge will improve road safety, road freight productivity and community connections for local motorists, pedestrians and cyclists,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said.

According to Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey, the bridge over Kilcoy Creek is vital to the region’s freight network as well as the local, state and national economy.

“The current bridge is becoming costly to maintain and load limits to protect it would significantly impact freight transport and the businesses that rely on road transport.

“This upgrade will also improve the nearby carpark at Anzac Park at the entrance to Kilcoy with a new turn-around facility and formalised parking bay,” Mr Bailey said.

The detailed design for the new bridge has already been completed, and tenders for its construction is going to be released to market in the coming months.

Construction on the new Kilcoy Creek Bridge is anticipated to commence by mid-2019.
