New funding injection to deliver more than 100 road safety projects across WA
The Western Australian Government is committed to improving road safety across the State, investing another $52 million towards the 2024-25 State Black Spot Program and Safer Roads Program.
These programs will deliver vital road safety upgrades to more than 100 locations across Western Australia, including 63 in regional areas.
The significant investment from the State Government will deliver the upgrades as well as critical planning and pre-construction works.
“Improving road safety is a high priority for our Government, which is why we continue to make significant investments to upgrade roads across Western Australia.
“This $52 million injection will help deliver more than 100 projects across the State – critical upgrades like new safety barriers, sealed shoulders, roundabouts and traffic signals.
“These projects come on top of our landmark $1 billion Regional Road Safety Program, which will deliver safety upgrades to 10,000 kilometres of the State’s road network by mid-2025 since it was established in 2020,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
About $22 million has been allocated to the State Black Spot Program while $30 million is allocated for the Safer Roads Program.
Meanwhile, $6 million will be contributed by local governments from around the State to support safety projects on local roads.
This funding injection brings the total investment into specific Western Australian road safety programs since 2020/21 to about $1.3 billion.
“This funding highlights the Cook Government’s commitment to improving safety on roads across our State.
“Unfortunately, deaths on regional roads are again over-represented in the fatalities data for the year-to-date, but we are working hard with road safety improvements such as these along with the Regional Road Safety Program to make our roads as safe as possible,” Road Safety Minister David Michael said.
