New Frankston Station contract awarded to John Holland and KBR

A multimillion-dollar contract for a new train station at Frankston will kick of works this month to be completed by the end of 2018.

The project contract was awarded by the Victorian Government to an alliance led by John Holland and KBR. This contract is part of the Victorian government’s $63 million Frankston Station Precinct Redevelopment.

To minimise disruption, the Level Crossing Removal Authority will oversee the project and coordinate work with the nearby Skye/Overton Road level crossing removal.

The architectural design contract was won by Genton Architecture in March 2017, taking out the competition of 39 other architectural companies. The design has been developed and refined with the government to include a distinctive new canopy and buildings with upgrades to the entrance and subway access.

The new Frankston Station will include:

  • New station building and comfortable waiting room
  • Improved access for people with a disability
  • MYKI gates and customer service office
  • Passenger information displays
  • Customer kiosk
  • Improved lighting, gearing loops and security cameras
  • Improved screens and landscaping

To create a thriving, modern shopping and transport hub, other improvements to the area include new public plazas and walkways. As a result, a safe, modern and welcoming gateway will be provided for the revitalised Frankston and Mornington Peninsula.

To being construction, the utility service relocation and technological surveys will begin works this month, followed by all major construction work and a temporary station closure from mid-year. While the station is demolished and rebuilt, temporary station facilities and rail replacement buses will transport commuters along the line.
