New Forrestfield-Airport Link precints in WA to support up to 2,000 jobs

As part of the $1.96 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link project, a strategy for building vibrant urban precincts around the new Belmont and Forrestfield train station hubs has been endorsed by the Western Australian Government.

According to Planning Minister Donna Faragher, these new precincts will be able to support over 22,000 jobs as well as generate 10,000 new homes for approximately 22,500 people – which will be accomplished through an intensive mixed-use development within the Belmont and Forrestfield station precincts.

Ms Faragher also said that a further 2,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase of these two new precincts.

“This major infrastructure project will deliver significant community benefits, particularly to people living in the eastern suburbs.

“Not only will it provide a direct rail link with the central business district but it will create vibrant, contemporary urban centres around the new stations, bringing a diverse mix of housing options, business opportunities and thousands of extra jobs to the region,” Ms Faragher said.

Ms Faragher added that Belmont Station will be transformed into a dynamic retail as well as commercial and residential precinct. On the other hand, the Forrestfield Station will be host to a new mixed-use urban centre and a multi-modal transit interchange which will service the eastern metropolitan region.

“Importantly, this also aligns with our aim for greater infill in strategic areas such as major transit hubs and identified activity centres to limit sprawl and accommodate 3.5 million people across the Perth and Peel regions by 2050,” Ms Faragher said.

Construction on the new Forrestfield Station precinct is expected to commence in 2018 and will take up to two years to complete.
