The Victorian Government is delivering two new stations as well as upgrading a third in Melbourne’s west to improve safety, accessibility and connectivity for locals now and into the future.

As Melbourne’s west continues to grow, the State Government will carry on investing in infrastructure that will support the increasing population in this region.

More than $200 million is going to be allocated for the delivery of a brand-new station at Tarneit West, the overhaul of the existing Albion Station and planning works for a new Truganina Station.

“We’re supporting the growing communities in Melbourne’s west – delivering new stations to ensure locals can get to where they need to go safer and more easily.

“By rebuilding Albion station, we are getting ready for Melbourne Airport Rail and the Metro Tunnel, both of which will provide further public transport links to the CBD,” Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan said.

The new Tarneit West Station will include a pedestrian crossing, a four-bay bus interchange and about 400 commuter parking spaces. The station is going to be built on Davis Road and it will be in conjunction with the planning for a new Truganina Station to better connect the growing suburbs in Melbourne’s west to the CBD.

“We are building a transport network that locals in Melbourne’s west deserve, with two brand-new stations and plans for a third – ensuring safer and more reliable transport connections,” Member for Western Metropolitan Region Ingrid Stitt said.

On the other hand, the existing Albion Station is going to be rebuilt to make it a modern and accessible station. This station rebuild will be delivered as part of the Melbourne Airport Rail project. This project is also part of preparation works on the Sunbury Line to get more trains running once Metro Tunnel opens in 2025.

“We’re continuing to deliver for Melbourne’s west with new stations in Wyndham and a rebuilt station at Albion. Our growing community will have better access to local public transport for years to come,” Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly said.

These projects build on the Victorian Government’s significant investment in transport infrastructure upgrades in Melbourne’s west and northwest that covers over $27 billion in road and rail infrastructure through the Big Build.

Projects such as the Metro Tunnel, Suburban Rail Loop, Sunbury Line Upgrade, Melbourne Airport Rail, West Gate Tunnel Project as well as upgrades to local roads will help to significantly improve locals move around the region each day by reducing travel times while improving reliability and safety.

17 dangerous and congested level crossings are also going to be removed – 12 of which have already been removed permanently – to ensure more trains can run more often.
