More works added to $551.7 million Ballarat Line Upgrade

Wendouree Station is going to undergo a major upgrade – as part of the $551.7 million Ballarat Line Upgrade project – to provide Victorians with more reliable services every day.

“We’re getting things done, delivering more frequent, reliable services to people travelling to Ballarat and beyond,” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.

The upgrade includes building a second platform which will create enough space for trains to pass each other at Wendouree Station. This project will also include the construction of a new accessible pedestrian link between the existing and new platforms as well as upgrades to security, lighting and signage.

The Ballarat Line Upgrade will also include adding an extra three kilometres of track between Bacchus Marsh Station and Rowsley Station Road in Maddingley. This will allow trains to quickly move in and out of the stabling facilities nearby.

The refinement made to the entire Ballarat Line project will remove the need to duplicate track at Warrenheip, meaning there’s less tree removal and excavation. Project changes also include a new train station at Toolern which will service the booming outer-western Melbourne suburbs.

“These upgrades will make a huge difference to the people in Wendouree and right along the line, boosting services and reducing delays.

“We’re upgrading every passenger line in the state to give regional Victorians the rail services they deserve,” Ms Allan said.

Earlier this year, the LendLease, Coleman Rail and SMEC consortium was named as the preferred proponent to build the Ballarat Line Upgrade. This week, the consortium has signed the contracts for the project.

The Ballarat Line Upgrade is part of the $1.57 billion Regional Rail Revival which is funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments.
