McConnell Dowell is set to deliver works on New South Wales’ Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road Upgrade in Penrith, with the company awarded the contract to upgrade the Jane Street - Union Road to Museum Drive section of the project.
“We are very pleased to continue our relationship with RMS (Roads and Maritime Services). This project helps us achieve our objectives of increasing our presence in the NSW and Transport markets. We look forward to meeting and exceeding all of RMS’ objectives and improving the lives of those who live in or travel through this area of Sydney,” McConnell Dowell Managing Director Jim Frith said.
Key features of the $105 million Jane Street upgrade include:
An additional lane on both north and south bound on Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road, between Union Road and to the south of Museum Drive
A longer left turn along Mulgoa Road for vehicles turning westbound onto High Street
Upgrade of the Mulgoa Road and High Street intersection to provide increased capacity
Upgrade of the T-intersection of Jane Street with Castlereagh Road to provide increased capacity
Widening the existing rail underpass to allow three lanes in each direction on Castlereagh Road and left turn into Jane Street
Bus priority at the High Street intersection
The project will also include building new pedestrian and cycling paths as well as realigning existing utility services.
Once completed, the Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road Upgrade will help ease congestion, improve accessibility as well as increase road capacity to cater for the future growth of the Western Sydney community.
“This project will improve access to public transport in the busy CBD and get people home sooner and safer,” Federal Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge said.
The Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road Upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments. Construction is expected to commence in December of this year, with completion anticipated for late 2020.
