Atlas Iron has officially awarded the mining contract for its McPhee Creek Project in Western Australia to MACA, a subsidiary of Thiess.

Scope of the three-year contract will include mine load and haul of approximately 10 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), prior to being transported and processed at Roy Hill.

“MACA has a strong, 20-year history servicing the resources and construction industries, and has built long standing client relationships during this period. We are now operating as a Thiess company, and I am delighted with the effort between both companies to continue to support these relationships and critical project development in Western Australia.

“We’ve been working with Atlas for almost 15 years across our crushing, civil and mining businesses, and I look forward to working with them once again on the McPhee Creek Project,” Thiess Group Executive Australia West and MACA CEO David Greig said.

The McPhee Creek project is located in the Pilbara region, about 100 kilometres north of Roy Hill Mine and 30 kilometres north of Nullagine.

Final Investment Decision (FID) for the project is expected in mid-2023.

The McPhee Creek Project will have a production rate of around 9.5-9.7Mwtpa once operational – expected in 2024. The first ore is expected to reach Roy Hill in 2025.

The project is anticipated to employ 145 people at peak operations, including opportunities for local Indigenous businesses.

“It is very pleasing to see MACA’s ongoing commitment to their clients. They have great people who pride themselves in providing value across a broad range of services,” Thiess Executive Chair and CEO Michael Wright said.

Last month, Atlas Iron announced the award of several work contracts for the McPhee Creek Project, including the mining contract with MACA. Other contracts that were awarded are for major haulage and drill and blast works. You can read more about it here.
