The contract to build the first stage of the $81 million O’Herns Road Upgrade in Melbourne’s north has been awarded to Maca Civil Pty Ltd, taking the project one step closer to construction.
Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher said that Stage One of the project will involve upgrading the O’Herns Road and High Street intersection.
“Melbourne’s north is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country and the Australian Government is committed to delivering infrastructure to connect communities,” Mr Fletcher said.

According to Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan, this upgrade project will reduce congestion on key arterial roads such as Cooper Street, Epping Street, High Street and Miller Street.
Works on Stage One will include replacing the roundabout at O’Herns Road and High Street intersection with traffic lights as well as a raised platform which will help improve safety.
“Stage One of this vital project will improve traffic flow in the northern suburbs and create more than 40 local jobs,” Mr Donnellan said.
Construction on the first stage of the O’Herns Road Upgrade is expected to begin immediately and completed by mid-2018.
