Local builder wins contract for Stage 1 of $280m Echuca-Moama Bridge Project

Construction of a new major roundabout at the Murray Valley Highway and Warren Street intersection in Echuca is set to commence soon with the contract to deliver the Echuca-Moama Bridge – Stage 1 project awarded to Echuca-based RECivil.

This project is part of the $280 million Echuca-Moama Bridge Project and is the first step towards a more efficient, safer bridge over the Murray River, between Echuca and Moama.

“This is the first stage of the $280 million Echuca-Moama Bridge Project, which is the centrepiece of the Australian Government’s commitment to improving the safety of roads in the region.

“This $3.77 million intersection upgrade will address long-standing community concerns about safety at this interaction as well as paving the way for a second Murray crossing in the region,” Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said.

According to VIC Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan, the project announcement is fantastic news for the local community, who has waited for a long time for the intersection to be removed.

“With RECivil winning this work, this project is putting local jobs first,” Mr Donnellan said.

New South Wales Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said that NSW is proud to be working with the Australian and Victorian Governments in building a second crossing over the Murray River for Echuca and Moama.

“Stage 1 of the project will eliminate the dangerous Y-shaped intersection layout, making it much safer and easier for commuters, tourists and larger freight vehicles to enter and leave Echuca,” Mrs Pavey said.
