Local South Australian builder Bardavcol has been awarded the contract to undertake major works on the $85 million Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive intersection upgrade.
This follows the announcement of the preferred consortium to deliver the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project.
Not only will this intersection upgrade help relieve congestion and improve capacity, but it will also provide better traffic flow between the city and airport during and after the construction of the T2D Project.
Both Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive are major commuter, freight and public transport routes, and the intersection sees up to 60,000 vehicles pass by each day.
“Even without the works associated with the T2D Project, increasing capacity at the intersection of Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive is a must-do to reduce delays and improve traffic flow and safety for all road users.
“This intersection is a major link point between the city and the airport, and commuters to either desitnation don’t want to be stuck in traffic because of a lack of road capacity.
“We know the broader T2D Project will be a boon for local jobs, but it’s fantastic to be able to award significant complementary projects like this to a local firm in Bardavcol, which has a long and proven track record of delivering quality infrastructure for South Australians,” Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Tom Koutsantonis said.

The intersection upgrade will include:
This project is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian Governments on a 50:50 basis, each contributing $42.5 million, and will support up to 125 full-time equivalent jobs annually during its construction phase.
The Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive intersection upgrade is one of several enhancements to roadways and intersections in the areas surrounding the T2D Project. These works will collectively ensure the Adelaide road network can function efficiently during the construction and after the completion of the T2D Project.
