Lendlease has secured a contract with the Department of Defence for the delivery of new infrastructure and facilities at the RAAF Base in Townsville, Queensland, which will support the three additional Chinook Helicopters for the 5th Aviation Regiment.
Under the contract award, Lendlease will deliver the LAND 4502 Project that includes upgrading a number of existing facilities on site as well.
“Lendlease has been delivering work at RAAF Base Townsville for more than 10 years.
“Securing the LAND 4502 Project allows our North Queensland team to transition from the recently completed Replacement Chinook Facilities Project and continue our work promoting increased Indigenous and local industry participation,” Lendlease Chief Executive Officer Building Australia Dale Connor said.
Construction of this project is expected to take up to 18 months and will require up to 85 full-time jobs on site during its peak period.
“With the support of Defence, we have developed a Local Industry Capability Plan for the LAND 4502 Project that not only identifies subcontract, employment and training opportunities, but also ensures that wherever possible, the project spend is directed into the local economy,” Mr Connor said.
Works on the LAND 4502 Project is already underway and the construction is due to be completed by late 2020.
