The Roads and Maritime Services has awarded Lendlease with the contact to design and construct the Northern Road Upgrade between Glenmore Park and South Penrith, a key project of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan. Lend Lease Engineering was one of three companies shortlisted for the north section of the Northern Road Upgrade in January 2016 with Fulton Hogan and CPB Contractors named as the other bidders.
Craig Laslett, Lend Lease Managing Director of Engineering, spoke more about signing of the contract in a company statement.
“We look forward to working closely with Roads and Maritime Services to safely deliver the upgrade of The Northern Road between Glenmore Park and South Penrith. This work will improve road transport capacity ahead of the opening of the new Western Sydney Airport and future traffic demand," said Mr Laslett.
“Lendlease has a proud history of working with Western Sydney communities through the delivery of the M2 and M7 motorways. We’re excited about helping unlock the economic potential of this growing region and creating jobs in the process."
The Northern Road upgrade is considered a key project in the Australian and NSW government’s $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to provide essential road improvements for one of Australia’s fastest growing regions before the new western Sydney airport opens in the mid-2020s.

Once complete, the full upgrade will result in 35 kilometres of road being upgraded to increase road capacity, reduce congestion and improve safety for motorists travelling between Narellan and Penrith.
Lendlease's sectoin includes widening about four kilometres of The Northern Road between Jamison Road at South Penrith and Glenmore Parkway at Glenmore Park to four lanes in each direction.
“Commuters, pedestrians and cyclists will all benefit from the upgrade as the project includes a continuous kerbside bus lane in each direction and off-road shared paths along the length of the project," said a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson.
Construction is reported to commence in mid-2017 and will finish by the close of 2019.
