A new Victoria Cross Station is set to transform North Sydney and Lendlease will be delivering the $476 million train station with a landmark mixed-use building above it.

“The new Victoria Cross metro station will be a landmark in the heart of North Sydney, giving customers more and easier public transport options as part of our plan to improve transport,” Minister for Transport and infrastructure Andrew Constance said.

Lendlease was awarded the contract to deliver the new station and mixed-use building in December 2018.

The new Victoria Cross Station is going to be part of the Sydney Metro integrated station development and the proposed station will comprise of a 40-storey building that will feature commercial office and retail spaces.

In addition, Lendlease will also be delivering improvements to the public domain surrounding the Victoria Cross Station precinct.

Lendlease CEO of Property, Australia Kylie Rampa said: “We look forward to partnering with government to deliver this important new development for Sydney’s future and feel privileged our approach that combines our development and building expertise with our global experience was chosen to deliver it.”

Lendlease CEO of building, Australia Dale Connor added: “The new Victoria Cross Station will transform North Sydney by providing increased transport links and new open spaces, employment and retail opportunities.”

The New South Wales Government is set to receive over $200 million from Lendlease for the rights to develop the landmark 40-storey building above Victoria Cross Station’s southern entrance. This is part of the value capture agreement for the Sydney Metro project.

The new Victoria Cross Station and mixed-use building is the second integrated station development under the Sydney Metro and Southwest project.

“The new integrated station development will help shape North Sydney’s future, adding to the vibrancy of the area.

“New employment and retail opportunities, improved pedestrian connections and high quality outdoor spaces will add to a growing commercial and residential precinct,” Mr Constance said.

Mr Constance added that in order to minimise the disruption to the local community, the new station is going to be built mainly underground and the integrated station development is going to be built together with it.

Roadheader tunnelling machines are now working to dig up the future Victoria Cross Station cavern under Miller Street. On the other hand, detailed planning for the project is expected to be submitted for approval in May of this year.
