Senex Energy and Jemena have signed an agreement that will fast track the delivery of the Atlas Gas Processing Plant and Pipeline (AGPP). Under the agreement, Jemena will build, own and operate the AGPP, which will be connected to Senex’s new Atlas gas field in the Surat Basin in Queensland.
“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Jemena to fast track Project Atlas to provide additional gas volumes into the domestic market,” Senex Energy Managing Director and CEO Ian Davies said.
Jemena was appointed to deliver the project following a competitive tender process where the company proposed the most cost effective and direct pathway to the domestic gas market.
Jemena will be investing approximately $140 million towards the project, which will involve the construction of a new gas plant and a 60-kilometre pipeline that will transport up to 60TJs of gas daily.
“We know there is continued demand for gas across the east coast and that northern Australia will play a leading role in meeting this demand by bringing new gas to where it is most needed, via the most direct and economic route,” Jemena Managing Director Paul Adams said.

Through the AGPP, Senex’s Atlas gas field is going to be connected to Jemena’s Darling Downs Pipeline as well as the Wallumbilla Gas Hub - the country’s largest gas hub.
The AGPP is expected to create up to 200 jobs throughout planning, construction and commissioning.
“The Atlas gas field is the first gas exploration tenements awarded by the Queensland Government as part of a broader move to fast track the development of new gas to the domestic market. Jemena will construct AGPP on an expedited schedule in order to deliver first gas by the end of 2019,” Mr Adams said.
