Another busy Victorian road will soon be less congested and motorists in Melbourne’s south-east can have faster journeys with the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade getting underway.
Construction is scheduled to commence later this year and works are being undertaken by Seymour Whyte and McConnell Dowell.
This vital road project forms part of the $2.27 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade – South Eastern Roads and Northern Roads package that will upgrade suburban roads across Melbourne’s south-eastern and northern areas.
“The Australian Government is committed to delivering this project – which will make it easier and more accessible for motorists to get where they need to go.
“Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road is a vital connection for the south-east, and this upgrade will provide a huge benefit for the area, while also creating local jobs,” Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher MP said.
The upgrade will deliver:
“We’re getting on with the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade – to reduce congestion, bring down travel times and boost safety in the area.
“Major works will commence this year, with the benefits of the project to be felt right across the growing south-east suburbs,” Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan MP said.
Once completed, the upgraded road will provide safer journeys and reduced travel times along this route for the tens of thousands of motorists that pass through this key route each day.
“The project also includes widening of two existing roundabouts and two new bridges over Deep Creek, which is fantastic news for the community – and will ensure locals can get home sooner and safer,” Federal Member for La Trobe Jason Wood MP said.
“Whether it’s travelling to the shops, work or an event – we're delivering this vital upgrade to benefit all locals and make it easier for them to travel,” Victorian Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP said.
Early works on the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade is now underway and the project is due to be completed by 2025.
The $2.27 billion Suburban Road Upgrade – South Eastern Roads and Northern Roads package is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments – each contributing $1.1 billion.
