GRES wins new contracts for works at Saracen's gold operations in WA

GR Engineering Services (GRES) has been awarded contracts with a combined value of $29 million to deliver additional works at Saracen Mineral Holdings’ Thunderbox and Carosue Dam operations in Western Australia.

The first contract is valued at $22 million and will involve engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the Thunderbox Paste Plant Project – including the design, supply installation and commissioning of a new 150 cubic metre per hour paste backfill plant. This project will also include works at the existing processing facility as well as at a new remote paste plant location.

GRES will commence construction of the Thunderbox projects immediately and is anticipated to complete works in the first half of 2021.

The second contract awarded to GRES is valued at $7 million, which is a variation of an existing contract for the installation of a paste pump at the Karari Paste Plant. The paste pump will help distribute paste to the Whirling Dervish underground mine at the Carosue Dam Operations.

“GR Engineering is pleased to have been awarded the EPC contract for the Thunderbox Paste Plant Project and the variation works for the Carosue Dam Operations Plant Expansion Project.

“GR Engineering has now worked with Saracen on three key projects in the last two years and we look forward to continuing our strong working relationship with one of Australia’s leading gold producers,” GR Engineering Managing Director Geoff Jones said.

The Thunderbox Operations is located in the Yandal Belt and the Agnew-Wiluna Belt in the Northern Eastern Goldfields. On the other hand, the Carosue Dam Operations is located approximately 120 kilometres north east of Kalgoorlie.
